OSFest just celebrated it's 8th year being a con, while it was our first time attending. For being around 8 years, I personally expected a little more coordination. The layout was kind of crazy, having to travel from one conference room to the other, spread throughout the entire hotel, in order to attend different panels. Communication was low and I couldn't even pick out one staff member the entire day for any sort of assistance. I wanted to learn about the history of Dr. San Guinary, which was supposed to be held at a certain time, only to find out that it had moved an hour earlier.
I really don't want this to come across as an article where I left unhappy and that I am bashing the hard work put into a convention. Those were just little things I as an attendee would like to see get a bit more attention. Underground Inc. walked out having a tremendous time!
All of the vendors were so friendly. They went out of their way to talk to people and not in a sense of trying to make a sale. They genuinely just wanted to associate with the patrons of the con.
Jesse at http://tankmonkeycomic.com/ Mikey, Tim and Dave of http://screaminthedarkomaha.com/ and author Tamara Jones http://www.tamara-jones.net/were among some of the coolest people to talk to. There are others who were great to talk to so make sure you check out our OSFest panel podcast to hear about them.
We attended several panels. Mostly on creative writing. One of the panels served up Klingon food. Which most of it was actually pretty delicious. Other food was done well but just had ingredients not quite to my liking.
To end the night off, we held our first panel sharing duties with Test Reactor. We gave a little background on what we've done in the podcast/radio world, shared stories about what's worked for us and just gave some podcasting 101 to a nice group of already podcasters and podcast hopefuls. It was nice to share our knowledge with others and to learn a few things from them as well. All of which you can hear in our latest episode.
We want to thank OSFest for giving us the opportunity to speak with the interested people in attendance. We hear they already have some big and new things planned for next year and we can't wait to see how they grow.
